Chin Surgery (Mentoplasty)

The chin surgery is a cosmetic surgery that seeks to place the chin in a new position to improve the profile of the patient. It is done through an incision in the oral mucosa, without leaving scars on the skin. Then an osteotomy is completed, after which the bone segment is mobilized and fixed in a more forward or more backward position, depending on the needs of each patient. Other variants of this technique in patients requiring a chin volume increase, would mean placing custom chin prosthesis. It is very important in smokers that smoking increases the chances of complication of this procedure. This technique is particularly indicated in patients who have or a very prominent or receding chin. The technique can be performed under local anesthetic and sedation, with optimal functional recovery in a few days.
