Botulinum Toxin

Botulinum toxin is an alkaloid extracted from Clostridium botulinum bacteria, whose action is to paralyze the muscles. Its use in facial plastic surgery is based on the treatment of wrinkles of the front region by partial blockage of the muscles of the region, especially the frontal muscle, corrugator, procerus and orbicularis. Current infiltration techniques can offer natural and predictable results without leaving behind expressive faces that are often seen in artists several years ago. It is a reversible treatment with an approximate duration of about 6-9 months, with sometimes necessary new periodic infiltrations. It is important to know that despite the publicity that can be found in various media, the botulinum toxin is a bulking product, but to try by transient facial wrinkles muscle paresis, dystonia and muscle spasms, torticollis and certain types of headaches. This is a very individualizable treatment, so your facial plastic surgeon can advise you or recommend such treatment alternatives to it.
